TRAMWAY WALKING TRAIL

Heritage Tramway Walking Track - The track starts at the corner of Mons Rd & Telco Rd, just west of Buderim town centre.

From town, travel west along Burnett St, turn right into William St, and then turn right into Mons Rd.
Travel along Mons Rd, then turn into Telco Rd.  Car parking is available near the roas by turning directly left upon entering Telco Rd. cross to the western side of the road and go down the zig zag pathway that leads to the track.

A Short History:  Building of the tramway (really a railway), was carried out from late 1911 and the tram commenced running in 1914.  Mr Geo Phillips, Civil Engineer, Telegraph Chambers, Queen St Brisbane, was the planning and supervising engineer.
The tramway was a private line funded by government tramway loans applied for and guaranteed by Maroochy Shire Council.  Shire rate payers who gained advantage from thye tramway were charged an extra rate

Guide for Visitors
The railway was built to service the needs of farmers and residents of the Buderim district.  It enabled farm produce, fruit, timber etc. to access Brisbane via the main line at Palmwoods.

The first tram ran in 1914 and the last in 1935.

The walk described covers points of interest along the Buderim Village section of the Historic Buderim to Palmwoods tramway track.
